Shown left is a cardioid style stack. The one pictured has four cabinets but cardioid may be achieved with three with any one cabinet reversed. The spl level from the driver would have to be matched to the output of the forward facing pair. The vertical spacing of the foward facing pair will impact on the upper usable frequency limit.
Often the reversed cabinet (or pair of cabinets) is placed at the bottom enabling the forward facing to be stacked together. With the Twins this would enable this cardioid stack configuration to work up to around 350Hz providing some vertical control as well.
